Conrad’s depth and breadth of technical knowledge comes from 25 years of experience in the Hearing Health Care industry. He has had many roles ranging from repair technician/supervisor to trainer to his current position as regional sales manager for Unitron.

Acquired Brain Injury

Patti Hinton, Audiologist

Patti Hinton has provided audiology services at Parkwood Institute for 28 years covering brain injury, spinal cord injury, geriatric and stroke rehab as well as providing care to Parkwood’s veterans. For the past two years, Patti’s work has been focused on providing rehabilitation to persons with post-concussive syndrome and mild traumatic brain injury. She has supervised Western Audiology grad students for 26 years and has taught aural rehabilitation and provided guest lectures at Western as well. Patti served on the London board of the Canadian Hearing Society and helped develop their local aural rehabilitation group.

Patti will talk about her involvement with the Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) outpatient program and audiology’s role in assessment and treatment of post-concussive syndrome and mild Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).

Mary DeMelo is a Hearing Instrument Dispenser (HID) and has been with London Audiology Consultants for over 30 years.

February’s Hearing Club session is dedicated to the brain. Did you know that 2015 is the Year of the Brain? To celebrate this, at the next Hearing Club meeting we will be hosting a “Brain Games” afternoon. During the session we will exercise our brain by playing a variety of games. Mary will also provide some interesting information about the brain and how the brain relates to our hearing.

Guest Speaker Sarah Brac

Sarah Brac has a Bachelor of Science in Food and Nutrition from the University of Western Ontario, a Diploma in Culinary Management from St. Lawrence College, and is a Red Sealed Cook.

Recently Sarah received certificates in Audiology Assistant Diagnostics, and in Audiology Assistant Amplification from Nova South Eastern University in Florida, USA. In 2014, Sarah joined the team at London Audiology Consultants as an Audiology Assistant. Sarah is tasked with teaching patients how to use new hearing aids and accessories, hearing aid maintenance and repairs, assisting the audiologists and auditory rehabilitation.

In this session Sarah will be discussing the current research linking nutrition and hearing loss including the latest on type 2 Diabetes and hearing loss, and the roles of fats and antioxidants in age related hearing loss. She will also be sharing delicious healthy recipes and smart eating tips to help kick off your new year.
